A new solar panel system is protecting the roof of a 64-unit Pembroke Block condominium building to help owners save energy costs.
The installation in regards to the Central Park condo appears to be an actual ground-breaking move for a Vancouver Tropical island strata council.
In recent years, councils continues to be asking about the feasibility of installing familia electric panels, said Sandy Wagner, president of the Vancouver Island Strata Owners Association.
"This is the former that I know of, " Wagner stated. "That's fabulous for them. "
Typically the Central Park roof holds 60 solar panels installed by solar energy technician Power to the People, using materials away from supplier HES-PV, said Bruce Mackenzie, president of the strata council.
It will generate electricity that will submit into the strata's electrical panel, a large amount of reducing its electrical bills, cherished said. The solar panels are expected to obtain about 16, 000 kilowatt lots of a year, he said.
It is likely this system will save about one-third of these council's $6, 000 annual energy levels bill for its common areas, Mackenzie said. The common areas include home and outdoor lights, the lift, laundry machines and fans.
T. C. Hydro has made it straightforward to connect to the grid and does not power for the link, he said. The village of Victoria's only charge must have been for an electrical permit.
The $47, 000 cost was paid out of these strata's contingency services fund, Mackenzie said. It is being paid back located in monthly installments from owners over ten years.
The four-storey, 38-year-old starting is suited to solar power generation because it offers a flat roof without anything rejection the sun, he said.
A self-described "energy geek, " Mackenzie spearheaded the project, starting with a show akin to hands to indicate interest at a strata council annual general meeting this summer.
"As far as we know, this is the beginning on Vancouver Island that terme conseillé owners have voted to spend those funds to install solar panels, " cherished said. "It is practical now considering that falling price of solar panels is bridging the rising cost of electricity. "
The strata has taken other energy-saving steps, such as lighting upgrades, and moreover participating in B. C. Hydro's item incentive program in 2009.
Mackenzie within the putting together a summary of what such an increasing entails, hoping that other houses will follow suit.
It will be posted on often the B. C. Sustainable Energy Rapport website, bcsea. org, before the finish line of the month. Mackenzie will answer to questions.
